Activity: Designing Staff / Student AUP for Social Media
Dilemma:
A parent makes an appointment to complain to you as the principal of a school about a teachers posting on twitter and facebook. The parent is concerned the teacher shares too many of the details of his/her private life and is not being a good role model. You decide to form a committee with teachers to address the parameters around staff use of social media sites. What are the guidelines and the rationale for them? Condense your policy (if you can) into four easily stated rules or guidelines.
What steps would you take in communicating this policy?
Should you care about what the parent has to say about this issue ? why or why not?
Are there legitimate educational uses for social media that outweigh the need for control?
